17 Jul LONDON BIGGIN HILL AIRPORT SUPPORTING BROMLEY YOUTH THROUGH MUSIC
London, 17th July 2017: London Biggin Hill Airport is demonstrating its commitment to youth development in the borough by supporting the Bromley Youth Music Trust (BYMT), a nationally renowned independent music education service, with a £3,500 grant in aid of the organisation’s teaching project, Band on the Run.
Integral to the organisation’s vision to create equal opportunities for all young people to explore the world of music, Band on the Run is a programme that gives primary and secondary pupils at local schools an opportunity to receive top quality tuition in a range of popular instruments.
Big Phat Brass, BYMT’s award-winning brass group, visited London Biggin Hill Airport last week to accept the grant on behalf of the organisation. The donation will go towards the sponsorship of a series of lessons at both Biggin Hill Primary and Charles Darwin School, beginning after the summer holidays. During the visit the group held their weekly rehearsal in the airport’s main hangar alongside some of the resident jets.
Colin Hitchins, community relations manager, London Biggin Hill Airport, says: “As a local business, London Biggin Hill Airport is proud to be contributing to the outstanding work that BYMT does in the Bromley community. The life skills and opportunities gained through music are immeasurable and should be open to all children, regardless of their socio-economic background.”
BYMT’s Big Phat Brass band, consisting of some of Bromley’s most talented brass players, will be performing at London Biggin Hill’s Festival of Flight on Saturday 19th August.
